The Abandoned Tunnel at Canaan, NY

The second "twin tunnel" at State Line Tunnels at Canaan, NY, stands cold, dark and empty. The bore was abandoned around 1987, when Conrail single-tracked this section of the Boston & Albany. It is the original tunnel carved through by RR construction workers way back in 1842; The present-day tunnel that CSX now uses, was blasted through by the NYC around 1911. Watch out for the crazy old hermit who lives in the abandoned bore, and chases after railfans with a 12-guage shotgun! (Just kidding).
