This is the eastern entrance of Providence’s “east side tunnel”.

This is the eastern entrance of Providence’s “east side tunnel”. Finished in 1908, it is 5080’ long and runs from 101 North Main St. in downtown Providence to the east side of Gano St. to a massive rolling lift bridge spanning the Seekonk River. The last train to use it was sometime around 1981.
