Built in November, 1946, the two bay BMLRR engine house was used to house and service the road's small fleet of GE 70-ton diesel electric locomotives until the Belfast yard was closed and torn up in 2005 and the 1870's "Armstrong" turntable in front of the engine house was sold and moved to an out of state railroad. The engine house remained on the property and was used by an adjacent boatyard until it was demolished on June 21, 2011, to make room for a new five story, 22,400 sq.ft. indoor boat construction and repair structure. This image was taken as the 65 year old structure's roof collapsed. The demolition left the old BMLRR waterfront yard property without an engine house for the first time since the line opened in 1870.
