Photo of last trip for Conrail
last trip for Conrail

In March 1977, the Boston & Maine replaced Conrail as the contract operator of the MBTA's South Side commuter service. When it arrived at South Station, this would be the final Conrail-operated commuter train in Boston, ex-NYC RDC 55 making a Saturday night round trip on the Needham branch. With a TV tower blinking in the background, it prepared to depart from Needham Heights.
