Ancient bumper in Gardner MA (possibly pre 1900 ?)

Found this ancient looking bumper on a siding along the old Boston Barre & Gardner branch in Gardner this Spring. Could it be late 1800's? It sits just North of the Fitchburg main on what is known today as the Heywood industrial branch but the line used to run all the way to Elmwood Jct before the floods in the 1930's. Modelers should take note of this B&M detail.
