steam generator BuddWhen the MBTA's first five F40s were delivered, they needed an auxiliary source of steam heat in order to run with the former New Haven coaches that were still a big part of the Boston commuter fleet. One stopgap solution was the RDC-3 behind the F40 on this inbound Framingham train at Wellesley Farms, which was converted into a steam generator car.
