onto the Cutoff

Mechanicville-bound Boston & Maine train AP-3 swings onto the Hill Crossing Freight Cutoff at Somerville Junction behind a GP40-2 and two GP38-2s. In a few months the cutoff would be severed for Red Line construction, and trains out of Boston would head west via Lowell and the Stony Brook branch rather than running via Waltham and Concord.
