This ancient machine was a standard Boston Elevated Railway center entrance trolley that had been converted to a sand car in the 1950s. It would patrol the street-running Watertown line in icy weather to lay down grit, often making an early morning trip before the startup of regular service.. Naturally the one time I saw it out on the line I didn't have a camera with me.
