East Deerfield, MA.Not sure what this was, I asked former B&M officer Bruce Nelson. His reply: "What you are referring to was called a hump yard, no hump per say. Switch lead (stub ended) had a gradual incline, as did the east end of the class tracks. There were no retarders. I would guestimate about 90% of cars classified were empties, so that's how they got away with it. All the Pin Puller needed was a nudge in slack to pull pin and cars would roll away. Sometimes (it was) not necessary to stop the drag being switched."
