The NERAIL New England Railroad Photo Archive

I need some help here. Am I looking south on the Lowell Branch beginning of double track mains to Framingham and the switch to the Fitchburg Branch is behind me?

Yes. The gates should be the Route 9 crossing. Great shot!

Many years ago while traveling on Route 9, I always used to look forward to approaching this crossing, there were signals to be seen and the rails looked well-used.

Googling produced a link to a 1908 track layout blue print for the New Haven interlocking at Framingham Center and from your photo's vantage point there would be 3 tracks looking toward South Framingham and 2 tracks each heading to Fitchburg and Lowell!,_August_1908.jpg
