MEC 672 - last Maine Central Caboose - in Concord NH yardThe last caboose that the Maine Central RR purchased on September 28 1981, 672, will be leaving the area on her own wheels. If not the final caboose International made, it was certainly among the last. Upon MEC's request (union agreement requirement), International Car Company in Kenton Ohio tacked this single car order onto the end of a much larger Santa Fe 75 car order. The wide vision started life on the Mtn Div before being given it's final duty on the D&H after Guilford took over. After purchase from Guilford in 1991, it became a private car on the Merrimack Valley Railroad in Northfield, NH. It was soon painted green by the new owner and stenciled "Winnipesaukee River". It was named after the river by which it spent it's days in "retirement service" among the other cabooses in the old Boston & Maine yard in Northfield. After dozens of trips on the White Mountain Branch to Lincoln NH and down to Concord NH, it's heading for more rides on different track, remaining as a private car on the Wellsboro & Corning RR in Pennsylvania.
