Visitor Comments about this Photo:Sounds like once the new company takes command, it will be more difficult for the Rail Trailers in the Laconia Area to have their way. Hope so. Posted by Henry Brown on 2020-06-27 06:39:18 Henry, as I like to say, "Those Rails that are layin' are stayin' !" Besides going against the State, any resolution to seek the removal of the rails throughout Laconia and beyond, is off the table. The Rail Trailers would have fought a herculean, expensive, and unwinnable battle to get the rails lifted. The current Laconia Mayor was able to see to the any removal of rails taken off the table, in turn, appointing a committee to see an alternative route where all parties can agree on to get the WOW Trail from Lakeport to Weirs Beach. There were other interests that did not want rails lifted besides the railroad. Currently, a large scale tie replacement project is underway on the White Mountain Branch, from Concord to Thornton, focusing on the lighter used parts of the branch.. Thornton to Meredith, Lakeport to Lochmere, and vital portions of New England Southern's tracks. No worries. The Winnipesaukee Scenic's operations are safe, the entire rail corridor is safe, and New England Southern 2.0 will be safe.
