On a Sunday Morning in July of 1981,at Flannagans crossing. One month later the 1731 would be leading the local out of Salem. On 8/11/01 bound for Gloucester, it was involved in the head-on collision with the inbound commuter train at Prides Crossing, destroying the unit and killing 4 people
