…This however is not a good photograph. What it lacks in beauty, it makes up for in historical factoids. What you’re looking at here is a northbound view of the Valley Line, just north of the Pratt dock crossing. At one point, this was the economic hub of the small village of Maromas.
Starting in the foreground and diverging off to the right (east) is the one time location of the south switch of the Maromas yard. According to what we can tell from some old track maps, there was once a double-ended passing track, and off of that track was a double-ended house track. The house track was only about half the length of the passing track…very similar to the original configuration of the Goodspeed yard. I am not sure of the exact dates but the yard was gone by the 1940’s. The Maromas station was located north of the yard site at a small crossing. I have seen a map that suggests that there may have been a second (earlier) station on the west side of the main line, about half-distance up the passing track, somewhere in the vicinity of the Pratt siding switch (can be seen in the distance).
The Pratt switch is a relative newcomer to the area being put in place some time in the 1950’s or 60’s.
