Photo of Westbrook Ct
Westbrook Ct

Word on the Railfan grapevine was that the Circus train would be on the corridor 05-07-89. So we sat in New London Ct, opposite the station until 3am, a small group of fans and a Amtrak CF7 putting sparks into the night sky as it idled. Well, the train didn't come, problems in Providence RI. The next day we decided to head to New Haven to see if they had arrived. A short stop in Old Saybrook found the first sight of "The Clamdigger" Shore Line East. It was the official dedication and start up of the service from New Haven to Old Saybrook. We continued west towards New Haven when the radio bespoke of Conrail Xtra 301 westbound. So we pulled off the road in Westbrook and waited. RBB&B
