gravel train leaving SomervilleDuring the summer and fall of 1968, the Boston & Maine ran a conveyor belt of dedicated gravel trains between Bow, NH, and Revere, MA, bringing fill for what would have been the I-95 embankment across the Revere marshes that was then under construction. (The highway was never completed due to political opposition.) GP7 1561 and F7 4265 led a train of empties as they departed Somerville en route to Bow for another load.
