MEC 516 - "Canned in Concord"

It's been quite a while since CSX tied down a train in the Capital City between crew shifts. Also this particular tie down spot is hardly a common place, but it just makes sense. The train is in more of a safe and secure spot by the "iconic" Market Basket trailer behind the plaza. The long time place where crews ended their shifts at the Yard Tower is dark, most likely unsafe, and flat out disgusting with garbage, junk, and whatever strewn all over the area.

We've seen a lot of 516, so far in 2024, most notable features are it's pre-2010 left leaning Pan Am lettering on the engineer's side. Only the surviving 307, 326 (oos), 350, 506, and 517 have this same lettering.

With a brand new north end switch, on the Perini Siding in Bow, there's no need for CSX Crews to haul loaded Ciment Quebec cars north to Concord to runaround then south to Bow. While there may be a need for a double runaround from time to time, the days time consuming triple, or quadruple runarounds are done. There were only three empty Coastals behind MEC 516.

Always good to see the occasional south facing engine.

Finally, a railroad with some brains and willing to spend money does something that makes sense to help facilitate operations!
