Photo of #14 Orange Line Car @ Wellington Station
#14 Orange Line Car @ Wellington Station

Here was the 135th car of a 152 new Orange Line car order approaching Wellington Station heading inbound to Boston. These new Chinese built cars were assembled at the former Westinghouse Plant in Springfield Mass. On the left is the Wellington car house & shops, on the right, the inbound platform, one of two island platforms that serve Wellington Station.

The plusses of these cars, bright interior, fairly quiet running, plenty of information dispensed through automated messages and visual displays, seems like the doors are wider.

The big negative: uncomfortable seating compared to the former longstanding Hawker-Siddeley #12 cars.

Hopefully these cars can stand the test of time compared to their well built predecessors which ran in service for over 40 years.
