P&L 105 @ Laconia StationThere's lots of pumpkins and here was the Winnipesaukee Scenic's 3rd Annual Laconia Pumpkin Festival Turkey Dinner train as they departed north from the historic 1892 built Laconia Passenger Station on Friday 10/24/2025.
Just like the Turkey Dinner Trains that originate from Meredith, riders were treated to a New England style turkey dinner feast from Hart'sTurkey Farm with the turkey carved & served right at their tables, plus all the goodies, and a scenic sunset ride that took them north of the Weirs and back.
P&L 105 was built in 1971 for the New Orleans Public Belt railroad. The 1000hp, SW1000, end cab switcher first appeared on "These NH Rails" in September of 2020 still in NOPB bright red paint with dark blue painted trucks. The 105 was repainted in the winter of 2021.
The rest of the consist featured two former MBTA Budd RDC-1's with former two Lackawanna MU cars sandwiched in between them. Both Budds have unique histories. A former CN Caboose is used as shoving platform fully equipped with head and ditch lights, horn, and bell.
Trains sighted in Laconia were few & far between in 2025 due to mechanical issues with the Lakeport Drawbridge that was repaired after Labor Day.
No question, people love seeing a train at this well preserved historic train station.
