Photo of OLD ballast hoppers
OLD ballast hoppers

Passing through Eagle Bridge and noticed a pair of ancient ballast hoppers on the Battenkill tracks. Lettered for SNEX, on top of NEGS reporting marks done in spray paint, originally D&H. I can tell these are old by the poling pockets on the ends of the frame.

According to the "D&H Color Guide To Freight & Passenger Equipment", 1400 of these cars were built for the D&H by Bethlehem and ACF between 1939 and 1944 (prior to conversion for ballast service).
