GMTX 318 tied down at Hazen's (Milepost P101)

A road trip to Crawford Notch would not be complete without stops in nearby Whitefield to see the progress Vermont Railway has made since acquiring the New Hampshire Central. Here was GMTX 318 tied down at Hazens in Whitefield on the former MEC Mountain Division by milepost P101 with three hoppers for Presby Environmental that's located nearby.

In the background is Cherry Mountain, made up of Mount Martha and Owl's Head.. Mount Martha is the higher peak at 3573 feet.

GMTX 318 is an MP15AC, originally 32 of 32 built for the Milwaukee in September 1975, folded into the SOO, then to CP. 318 was used on Vermont Railway track's often sighted around Burlington and Rutland.

Vermont Rail System uses two end cab switchers on their New Hampshire owned railroads.. This red MP15AC for NHC, and the shiny yellow GMTX 1505 (SW1500 for NEGS). Just like the former Cannon Mountain tramway which had one tram car painted yellow, the other red, could these too be referred to as "Ketchup" for the 318 and "Mustard" for the 1505 ?? ;)

When railfanning the North Country, try the Little Grille in the former Littleton Passenger Station on Cottage Street in nearby Littleton.

Vermont Rail System has made huge progress in bringing these North Country rails back to life !

Nice shot and great information. I photographed this engine in Palmer Ma about a year and a half ago.
