Seeing the only EMD that Vermont Rail System owns still in Green Mountain Railroad green was a very fortunate catch.

This is the west leg of the wye in Montpelier Junction, where VRS's Washington County ("Little WACR") connects & interchanges with New England Central. Here they brought gondola cars loaded with big granite blocks from Barre.

This GP9R was originally built in 1955 for the Norfolk & Western. The "R" designates it was rebuilt somewhere along the way. It does have a low front short hood.

The Montpelier-Berlin Amtrak Station platform was where the picture taker was standing. New England Central looks like it uses the old station. First time here.

Great to see the Green Mountain green paint. GMRC 405, the world famous former Rutland ALCO RS-1, and the 804 are the only two engines to soldier on with VRS since they bought out the original Green Mountain Railroad in the late 1990's.
