WA-2, first chase-(1)GP-18 1751, sitting in front of Waterbury station, will be today's power for local WA-2. The ex ConRail branches taken over by the B&M from ConRail in 1982 were, the old Highland div. between Hartford and Waterbury, via Newington, New Britain, Plainville, Bristol, and Plymouth. They never really ran on the section between Hartford and New Britain, electing to use the branch from Berlin to New Britain, instead. They also operated the Torrington branch from Waterbury to Torrington, which the state purchased from ConRail at the time, but gave it up in 1995. The Railroad Museum of New england, which had been looking for a new home for several years, was awarded the "designated operator" status for the branch, which they have operating since, as the Naugatuck RR. The remnant of the Canal Line, which at that time was intact only between Cheshire and Avon, has since been cut back to just a mile north of Plainville station, where it crosses the Highland at grade, and about 3 miles southward.
