Follow the RiversP&W 2009 (with NR3) runs along the Quinebaug River, seen here alongside River Road (rte 12) in Lisbon Ct.
In about a mile the train will past through the Taft Tunnel, run by the Dam and cross the Shetucket on its way to Norwich.
Short side note: It was at this location that I had my first Canoe trip. We put in in Jewitt City, (three of us) we started down the river to go to the dam, after going about a mile we realized that with the heavy spring run off we could not paddle upstream against the current. So one of us got out and walked back to the truck, plan was to meet us down stream. When we arrived down stream at that location we found that he couldn't get near the place with the truck so we planned to meet further down at a campground above the dam, at this point the second of the three of us got out and I was alone for the southbound run. I had never piloted a canoe on a river before and rounding this bend in the river I hit class 1-2 rapids, The canoe bottomed out on a boulder and rolled over 90 degrees swamping itself before rolling back, the rest of the trip through the rapids was spent with water up to the gunnels in a canoe that would not turn. I believe I struck at least 90% of the rocks on the rest of the trip. And my 35mm Canon...was drifting around in the bottom of the canoe.
