This level of activity still blows my mind "only" 52 years ago...

I'm assuming this train ran down the Lowell-Framingham (now defunct) line, then to Mansfield, then Providence. A good way to easily move freight from Maine to Providence. Nasty looking power. Today, the Lowell line would be competing with the Worcester-Ayer main line and would probably be declared redundant.
