P & L 1590 @ Laconia Passenger StationFrom Saturday 10/29/22, the Winni Scenic RR & Rail Bike Adventures co-hosted the Pumpkin Express excursions that originated from the Laconia Passenger Station during NH Pumpkin Festival's Celebration in downtown Laconia.
Five 45 to 50 minute excursions ran hourly, and a sixth was added for 4pm, due to popular demand. This rare mileage ride offered a scenic trip south along the shores of Lake Winnisquam to Belmont and back, not crossing Route 3 & 11.
Both buildings in this picture are on the National Register of Historic Places.. The Laconia Passenger Station, designed by architect Bradford Gilbert was built in 1892. The former Laconia Evangelical Baptist Church is in the background, repurposed as a venue called The CAKE, for New Hampshire's own Recycled Percussion
The lineup included P&L 1590 (SW1001) and three once powered Budd RDCs.. 6921 (RDC9), 6105 (RDC1) & 9159 (RDC1).
Last time a day of excursions ran from the Laconia Passenger Station was in the summer of 2017, to celebrate the station's 125th anniversary. The Station today is home to several businesses and the Rail Bike Adventure experience.
