Alewife Bound Red Line 01755 Entering Park StreetTaking the train to a Red Sox game is a time honored tradition for me. Very much part of the charm of going to Fenway. In 2021, so far, the 'charm' seems dramatically changed. The Sawx are allowing a very limited attendance, which of course impacts everything else like ridership on the subway. This picture was taken on a weekday, not long before 5pm. Notice anything missing? In normal times, these platforms would be stuffed with people waiting to board subway cars stuffed with people. Hardly the case. I found the rather solitary ridership experience rather eerie. The Sawx did kick some a** that day, giving the Rays a 9 to 2 beat down, and have not really looked back since their three awful opening series losses against Baltimore. Go Sawx!
Back to the topic at hand, this Red Line train had a mixed fleet of mid-1980's Canadian built 01700's, with 01500's trailing. The Pullman built 01500's and 01600s have passed the half century mark of service, should be the first cars to be retired once the Chinese built 01900 replacement fleet takes hold. Let's hope the riders come back !
