PLLX (Winnipesaukee Scenic) 302 by Route 3 in BelmontHere was some residential running for the Plymouth & Lincoln's Empty Tie Train as they rounded the curve just before the Route 3 Crossing in Belmont. The former Winnisquam Station is behind me, and you can see Lake Winnisquam behind the house on Dutile Shore Road.
6 carloads of railroad ties were unloaded in both Meredith and Bridgewater for a large replacement project on various segments of the Plymouth and Lincoln's tracks between Lochmere and Thornton. Crews finished unloading the ties in Bridgewater on Friday, May 1. The P&L Crews started south with this train from Meredith Yard on Monday morning, May 4 as they headed for Lochmere. The cars were left for interchange with New England Southern, who grabbed the cars early Monday evening.
While catching a train pass through this section of the White Mountain Branch from Lakeport to Lochmere is extremely rare. These tracks are fully maintained and serve as a vital connection for the Winnipesaukee Scenic and Hobo Railroads, the Lincoln Shops, and the Lafayette Dinner Train to the National Rail Network via New England Southern and Springfield Terminal. GP7 #302 serves as one of two back up options for the Winnipesaukee Scenic's tourist train operation. You'll usually find 302 residing on the "Team Track" in Meredith Yard, ready for duty when needed. Seeing a non revenue freight move, hauled by a first generation "Geep", and performed by a tourist railroad was quite the sight.
