The Marshlands

The North End of the Newport Secondary Track passes through this marshland area. It is a delightful place about two miles from the now abandoned Sakonnet River railroad bridge. Until the State of Rhode Island makes plans to build another connecting bridge to the mainland, this area will remain dependent on the Old Colony & Newport Railway volunteers to keep it open, which they do. The Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts ride through this area on their annual St. Patrick's Day - 'Rhode Ireland Limited' excursion.
