FL-9 486

Engineers Dave Luna, running Amtrak FL-9 No. 486, and Doug Kydd in F-40PH No. 310, are running up the hill on the "chute track." They are leaving Southampton Street Yard in Boston to run nine miles down the Dorchester Branch to take the engines to Enprotech siding, near Read Interlocking at milepost 219.6 on the main line (at the Dedham-Readville city line) and will stay with the engines as a protect crew.
Getting AEM-7 "toasters" this far north of New Haven, Conn., is something new, as is the catenary, now being stressed under operating conditions in August 2000. That's a trainman standing in the FL-9s doorway.
