The BAR Mack Point Yard at Searsport, ME (Composited Digital Image)

This view of the then Bangor & Aroostook (now Montreal, Maine, & Atlantic Railway) Mack Point yard in Searsport, ME, is actually a digitally composited image. I took the original photograph a little after Noon on a bright, hot, and quite hazy day in early July, 2001. To make the image more interesting and dramatic, however, I replaced the original, basically blank sky with an image of a sunset sky that I took a week earlier in nearby Belfast, ME, right after the passage of a large thunderstorm. I then modified the overall tones of this composited image to match the hues of the sky as well as adding a "reflection" of those colors in the large BAR logo on the boxcar. Long the location of the BAR's MP 0.0 as the southern most point on its system, Mack Point is a deepwater port located on the Penobscot Bay. (The BAR, then in bankruptcy, was acquired by and became a part of the newly created MMA in 2003.)
