MBTA Commuter Train #129 prepares to roar through Swampscott Station

On a warm April evening at 5:20, MBTA Commuter Train #129 prepares to roar through Swampscott Station on its way outbound to Rockport, Massachusetts. During the Boston and Maine days, local freights would work the many industries along this right-of-way. At present, there are very few industries left that receive rail service - - as can be seen by the condition of the siding on the far right-hand side of the photograph. One of the industries served many years ago was Hunt Coal, and the remains of that siding can be seen today, immediately behind Monte's Pizza in Lynn.
