Looks like a cattle pass, BUT!

There were never any cattle here, right near downtown Saco. Maine. This is actually a "pupil pass" built so the grubby little urchins that attended the school (directly behind the photographer) could get across the tracks safely. Biddefrog, across the river, never built any of these, thereby encouraging their little ruffians to litter and trespass on the tracks.
