Washing Machine Days at Hayden

A short Autumn day in December of 1999 was reaching its sweet time along Amtrak's Springfield-New Haven Line. Shortly after 3:00p on the 8th, a southbound had been given a green into Hayden Interlocking. Soon, Connecticut Southern's CSO-4 came down and rolled into the siding with three B23-7s for power. Quite the sound as the 2011 and company were pulling hard at the 106-car train bound for Hartford, Connecticut. Not far from their haunts, these were just a few of the huge B23-7 mob that ran on CT trackage during Conrail days.

Photographed by Jeff Bray, December 8, 1999.
