Interestingly, if you note, you can see right through the rear grates, and I don't know if that's the design of these units, or if this unit was partially gutted. And I'm not sure, but I think this used to be a Southern Pacific unit ... (UPDATE: Thanks to Rick Towle, I've learned that the radiator grates on these units were moved by SP due to cooling problems in the long tunnels on that line. Apparently, if placed up high, they would suck in the warm exhaust (particularly trailing units), but by moving the grates down, they would avoid the exhaust and also draw the lower, cooler air in the tunnels.)
