Denver & Rio Grande Western high-side gondola 1132

How do you get a 100+ yr old high-side gondola from Colorado to Connecticut? By flatbed trailer of course. How do you get it off the trailer? You dig a trench, install some temporary rail and let gravity do the rest. D&RGW gondola #1132 arriving at CAMA in 2002. This douglas fir high-side gondola had survived quite nicely in the thin dry Colorado air.

Photographed by Jim Anderson, August 5, 2002.
