A Remnant of the Otter Valley Railroad

An old brown passenger coach, a remnant of the former Otter Valley RR of Vermont, stands rusting away in a lonely field near Colonie, NY. The Otter Valley RR operated on several miles of former Clarendon & Pittsford RR trackage north from Proctor, Vermont, in 1978 and 1979. The line was very scenic, but was located in a remote location out in the woods. The tourist line quickly folded, I am told, for lack of passengers and overspending on RR equipment. Power consisted of a former B&M Alco S3, painted brown. According to the book "New England Alcos In Twilight" by Scott Hartley, the Alco S3 ended up on a Rhode Island switching RR. P.S. If anyone out there remembers the Otter Valley RR, I would enjoy hearing from you. Photo by John Bazan.
