Pan Am Railways EDRJ (East Deerfield, MA to Rotterdam Junction, NY) grinds upgrade through Shelburne Falls, MA at 10:55 am on Saturday, 02/02/08 with two BNSF C44-9W's and 114 cars. The train was delayed for over an hour as maintenance crews removed a downed tree from the tracks, the result of an overnight storm that brought sleet and freezing rain. Track speeds are up significantly on the former B&M, thanks to a heavy maintenance blitz by Guilford. The 30 mile trip from East Deerfield to Hoosac Tunnel has been reduced from as much as 3 hours to as little as 1 hour and 45 minutes.
