Drilling StayboltsGerry Bagley drills telltale holes into the firebox staybolts on ex B&SR #7. These holes are required on moving high-pressure boilers as a crack in the staybolt will result in a noticable amount of steam coming out of said staybolt. Cracked or broken staybolts seriously compromise the integrity of any boiler.
This is part of the work being done by the Maine Narrow Gauge Muesum to bring #7 up to FRA Form 4 requirements.
#7 is in the middle of extensive restoration to her boiler, and the museum hopes to have her back in steam by late 2009 or early 2010. For more information, please visit http://www.mngrr.org/engine7.html and follow the progress in our work session reports.
