The Flying Yankee

The "Flying Yankee", New England's first streamliner, is a near copy of the original CB&Q "Pioneer Zephyr".

It first hit the high iron in 1935 in joint service for the Boston & Maine and Maine Central between Boston, Mass. and Bangor, Maine.

Throughout its career, it carried several different names as it migrated to other services, such as the "Cheshire" and the "Minuteman".

Boston & Maine retired the train in 1957, and it was subsequently preserved at the Edaville RR complex in South Carver, Mass. where it is shown here.

The train is now in New Hampshire being restored for operation.
