SLIDELL, La.—Authorities say an Amtrak train with 12 crew and 68 passengers hit a tractor-trailer carrying the shell of an armored personnel carrier Wednesday, injuring six people and blocking a major highway for hours.Slidell police say the truck driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries and four crew members of the Amtrak Crescent and one of its passengers had minor injuries. Authorities say the driver, who wasn't identified, told investigators he didn't see the train. Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the train was about an hour into a trip from New Orleans to New York when two locomotives, a baggage car and a sleeping car derailed. He says dozens of passengers were bused to Alabama for another train northward. The truck was bound for a Slidell plant that makes armored personnel carriers.
