Lawrence MA double track

Rail is cut eliminating the "ski jump" from yesterdays picture.

The MBCR crew spent most of the day measuring and aligning the new preformed track section by measurement against the present single mainline track. A Pettibone was used to push or pull the few inches to align.

With joint bars configured for a rail size change setting nearby, the track to the right being the old lawrence yard track will now be transformed into the new east track for the MBTA.

At 1:20 they had to give up the track for an MBTA work train to return to Boston with 7 empty flats and a caboose .

Out of sight to the right is the CWR laid down years ago to replace the present rail. Right after this picture a track inspector with a marking device walked towards Andover Street in Lawrence indicating that perhaps the plan is to first replace any bad ties, then change over the rail rather than add any additional preformed sections.
