Batten Kill Rail Road -- Wednesday October 21, 2015Two young trackside train fans are enthralled and mesmerized by the "huge" northbound consist about to pass the old ex-D&H passenger station in Cambridge NY. At the age of these two awed onlookers, I'm sure they're smitten by the sight, sound and smell of the ancient pair of Alco RS-3's united in a "team effort" as the "dinosaurs" tow 16 loads destined for Greenwich Junction through the center of town on this late Wednesday afternoon. The lads' enthusiasm is echoed by my own from the same exact spot today and some 50+ years ago when the D&H "Slatepicker" with similar power was "king of the roost" five days a week -- when I also grew up as a youngster in Cambridge.
