westbound on the Shore Line

New Haven FL9 2013 could definitely use a paint touchup on its nose, but in the NH's final summer of 1968 the railroad didn't have cash to spare for such luxuries. It led Boston-New York train 13, the 42nd Street, through a rock cut in the Pine Orchard section of Branford, CT, on the Shore Line.

Photographed by Tom Nelligan, August, 1968.
Added to the photo archive by Tom Nelligan, May 14, 2017.
Railroad: New Haven.
