farewell to the Yellow BuildingFrom 1894 to 1948, the New Haven Railroad's corporate headquarters were located in a large yellow brick building that was universally known as the Yellow Building, on Union Avenue across from the New Haven station. In 1948 the NH moved into the spartan high rise structure behind it, but the classic Yellow Building lasted another 20+ years as HQ of the Knights of Columbus fraternal order. The end came in 1971 after the KofC moved out. New Haven's police headquarters now occupies the site of the Yellow Building. The 1948 NH building still stands in 2018.
