The Massachusetts Central's first locomotive was Whitcomb 44-Tonner 401, built in 1940 for the Pittsburgh, Allegheny & McKees Rocks RR. Sporting a fresh two-tone green paint job, the 40-year-old centercab was about to go to work at Ware, MA.
