Weatherbeaten SentinelOld Saybrook tower was at the junction of the branch to Middletown, CT and what is now the Valley Railroad. At this time there was still some industry on the branch to warrant the freight cars in this view. The tower was still active, but was not manned on a continuous basis and maybe was used only as needed by this time. It was an old manual lever plant as evidenced by the rods and the rod activated jack in the foreground. Probably one of the first towers to go on the Shore Line in the Penn Central era.
