PC empty coal through the Grand Canyon of PennsylvaniaAka Pine Creek Gorge. From Wikipedia: "...In 1883, the Jersey Shore, Pine Creek, and Buffalo Railway opened, following the creek through the gorge....used the relatively level route along Pine Creek to link the New York Central Railroad (NYC) to the north with the Clearfield Coalfield to the southwest, and with NYC-allied lines in Williamsport to the southeast..." And there were 13 logging RRs in the area by the early 20th century. Conrail ripped up these tracks in 1988. As a testament to the longevity of EMD locomotives, GP40 3206 survived Conrail to be re-imagined as a New Jersey Transit GP40PH-2B #4200, which was hauling passengers rather than coal as of 11/2019.
