"James A McGrath" leads MBTA inbound at West NatickF40PH 1001 wears a cab-side plaque honoring James A McGrath, a conductor on the B&A Framingham runs for many years who died in 1977 while trying to deal with an engine breakdown on an evening commuter train. Consist is 4 fairly new Boise Budd coaches converted from RDCs, which were unpopular with riders, as the rebuilders had removed the sound- deadening rubber pads from the trucks, leaving the cars noisy and rough-riding. You could hear them coming from miles away!
