Bikes, Budds, Burgers, and More by the Boardwalk ! Here is one from the 98th Laconia Motorcycle Week, just a bit to the north of the Weirs Beach Boardwalk in Laconia from Sunday 6/13. When the train pulled into the Weirs, riders aboard smelled some serious chow cooking!
The Winnipesaukee Scenic provided shuttle train service for the opening weekend of Bike Week from Meredith Station to Weirs Beach throughout the day, and will do it again this Friday and Saturday.
The lineup is almost reminiscent of what the Budds looked like in their final years in commuter rail service on the MBTA. Most of the Budds had their self-propelled days behind them, with a locomotive used for the push/pull duties. In this case, the Winnipesaukee Scenic's SW1000, #1012 was the power.
The four Budds from south to north consisted of::
RDC-1 #9151 (Former Reading / MBTA) (12/1962)
RDC-9 #6921 (Former B&M / MBTA) (10/1956)
RDC-1 #6105 (Former B&M / MBTA) (11/1953)
RDC-1 #9159 (Former Reading / MBTA) (12/1962)
#9159 can be used to lead push backs as shown. The headlamps, bell, and horn (albeit a bit fouled) work, though all operating controls have been removed. Usually an caboose equipped with lights, bell and horn is used as the shoving platform on the northbound moves with their regular scenic rides. Photographed by Jay Gadon, June 13, 2021.
